The Mad Tea Party Teacup Book ~ The Finale

Hi everyone.I'm here today to share the last couple of spreads in my chipboard Mad Tea Party book featuring a few of Rick's many fabulous Alice in Wonderland images. Since all of the backgrounds were created in the same general way which I explained here, I won't go into that today. Instead I will jump right in with the third double page spread about Cheshire Cat.

The left side of the spread features one of Chessie's most famous quotes. Although he wasn't part of the chapter in Lewis Carroll's book about the tea party, he was very important to the scene since he directed Alice to it at the end of the chapter before. In keeping with unifying the book, several elements were repeated on this page: the doily; the harlequin washi tape, this time cut into harlequin shapes; the butterfly (Absolom); and the detail on the cup handle. The words are from an Etsy collage sheet and bright blue flower buttons are a nod to all of the gorgeous flowers in Wonderland.

The right page of this spread features one of the many Cheshire Cat images which Rick has in his portfolio. This one is called Stand On Your Head Cheshire Cat and can be found in the Zibbet shop. Chessie was coloured with Prismacolor pencils using the Tim Burton colour scheme rather than the Disney one. He was given turquoise rhinestone eyes and then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border. He was matted in black and popped up on foam tape. Small tree branches were layered together to create a larger branch for Chessie to perch upon. Detail was added with Prismacolor pencils and Big Brush pens. Another blue butterfly and some of the same harlequins plus a computer generated tag finished the spread.

The left page of the next spread features a quote from the book when Dormouse is falling asleep while Hatter is singing his Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat song. The quote was printed on kraft cardstock, edged with Black Soot Distress ink, and matted in black. A tiny sign with the fist part of the song was added as well as more harlequin tape left over from when the diamonds were cut. Piano washi tape popped up on foam tape, and a music note and treble clef brad were added to continue the music idea. A small bat was die cut from Black cardstock and given red Stickles eyes. The finishing detail was the three stars added to the handle of the cup...the regular subject of the Twinkle song.

The right side of this spread features the adorable sleepy Dormouse image found at I Brake for Stamps. She was coloured with Prismacolor pencils and a checkered border was doodled around the image before it was cut out. This ties in with the black and white washi tape. A doily was layered underneath and outlined with black pen.

The image, black arrow, and name were all popped up on foam tape to add dimension and shadow. Two of the circles left when the harlequin tape was punched were added to the Dormouse word and two strips were added beneath the image. The three star detail was added to the cup handle repeating the detail from the other page.

The final page is the back cover which has two Idea-ology letter cards, A and W, adhered to the background. the word "in" was done with a Dymo labeller. A teapot clock image placed on a scallop circle background, a metal key charm, and another sparkly butterfly were added to the page. Hearts were punched from the harlequin washi tape and added in clusters. The ring was fed through the pages and a dotty black and white ribbon was added to the binder ring.

Here are two last pictures, one showing how chunky the book is and the other showing how they are fastened together.

I had an absolute blast creating this book with Rick's fabulous images. Thanks for joining me on this adventure.

Warm Winter Wishes ~ Outlawz Greeting Challenge Guest Designer

Hi everyone! Rick St. Dennis is sponsoring The Outlawz Greetings Challenge and I have the privilege of representing the EDT as a Guest Designer. Yay! The theme is Anything Goes so I chose to play along using Tipsy Tinpail who can be found in Rick's Zibbet  or Etsy shops.

I coloured Tipsy and Buddy with Prismacolor pencils and then fussy cut them leaving a narrow white border so I could capture the furriness of the hood and pompom. They were then popped up on foam tape to create dimension and shadow.

The card base is a deep red textured cardstock. A blue rectangle was cut for the sky and pattern was added with a swirly embossing folder. Treasure Silver wax was brushed over the embossing to highlight it and create movement in the background. The snowdrifts were cut from sparkly and shiny white cardstock. Each layer was embossed with polka dots and the top edges were inked with gray to allow them to show depth. Once the front two drifts were adhered with foam tape, Tipsy and Buddy were added over that.

Die cut clouds were brushed with Icicle Stickles and popped up on foam tape. Small snowflakes were punched from white cardstock and given pearl centers before being added to the sky. The sentiment was computer generated and printed on white cardstock which was then matted in black. Two lengths of blue and white baker's twine were added to the back of the sentiment which was then popped up on foam tape.

Thanks to The Outlawz Greeting Challenge for allowing me to play along with their Anything Goes Challenge. When you get a chance, pop over to their site to see the other wonderful Rick St. Dennis creations by their talented Design Team. Maybe if we are lucky, some of them will share their delightful projects on our Fans and Friends Facebook page.

Angelique ~ CYP Challenge #241

Hi there! It's Monday and that means a new challenge at Craft Your Passion. This week our theme is Baby, It's Cold Outside so we are looking for projects that reflect that. Our sponsor this week is the fabulous Delicious Doodles and I chose to play along using Angelique With Snowflake. I especially love Teri's gorgeous fairies and this one is so pretty.

I coloured Angelique with Prismacolor pencils and added a transparent snowflake sticker to the already gorgeous snowflake on the image in order to tie the image to the background. The image was fussy cut along the top edge and trimmed out on the other three sides before it was matted in black and popped up on foam tape.

I kept the background very simple because I like these images to really stand alone. They are so detailed and striking. A piece of deep blue textured cardstock was cut slightly smaller than the white card base. Large white snowflakes and a smaller one were punched from white cardstock and adhered to the blue so they are peeking out from behind Angelique. Transparent stickers with hints of glitter were placed in the open spaces as well as in the large snowflake centers.

The sentiment began as a metallic sticker added to black cardstock. It was then fuusy cut around the words and placed on a die cut background of foil cardstock. This was then popped up on foam tape and tucked slightly under the image. Faux stitching was doodled around the outer white border of the card to finish off the design.

Thanks for stopping by today. Angelique and I appreciate your fine company. When you get a chance, pop over to the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog to see the other gorgeous creations from my talented teamies. Whether it's cold or not right now where you live, we hope that you will join us this week for our Baby, It's Cold Outside challenge!

The Mad Tea Party Part II

Hi everyone. I'm here today to share the next couple of spreads in my chipboard Mad Tea Party book featuring a few of Rick St. Dennis' many fabulous Alice in Wonderland images. Since all of the backgrounds were created in the same general way which I explained here, I won't go into that today. Instead I will jump right in with the next two pages about The Mad Hatter.

The left page which is the backside of the Alice page was used to feature a quote from Hatter as well as a few related embellies. The quote, taken from the Lewis Carroll book, was computer generated and printed on kraft cardstock, matted in black, and popped up on foam tape. A hat tag was printed from an Etsy file, matted in black, and tucked under the quote. A small whimsical teacup button was attached to the right side of the saucer with a scrap of cheesecloth added for the steam. Small circles were punched from the harlequin washi tape attached to white cardstock. This pattern repeats throughout the book, lending continuity.

The right page uses the Mad Hatter  image which can be found in Rick's Zibbet shop. It was coloured with Prismacolor pencils and Goldenrod Stickles were added to the hat pins for a little sparkle. It was fussy cut leaving a white border, matted in black cardstock, and fussy cut again. before Hatter was adhered to the teacup with foam tape.

A small doily, another recurring detail, was placed behind him. A tea party ticket from Vectoria Designs was matted in black and tucked underneath him. More of the washi/white cardstock tape was added to give him a place to stand and bring that pattern to the page. A hat brad with its legs removed was adhered to the washi tape with foam tape.

The next 2 page spread is dedicated to the March Hare. The left side contains one of his quotes from Lewis Carroll's book. This was printed on kraft cardstock, the edges of which were distressed, and then edged with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

It was then matted in black and a scalloped border was punched from the washi tape/cardstock combo. A narrow pink ribbon was layered over that to bring some of the pink from the image to this page. Stars were punched from the harlequin pattern, edged with Black Pitt pen, and adhered to the page. Cheesecloth was added beneath the two corners of the quote layer. The final touches were to add a tiny piece of black scalloped border, three black enamel dots on the handle, and a resin hand pointing to the quote.

The right page of this spread features the March Hare, one of my favourite RSD images which can be found in Rick's Zibbet shop. I coloured him with Prismacolor pencils and fussy cut him leaving a narrow white border. He was then matted with black cardstock and then popped up on foam tape.

The March Hare was also layered over a small doily and a length of the harlequin tape was used to ground him. More small stars and a scalloped border were punched and adhered in order to tie the two pages together. yellow enamel dots were added to the cup handle and a clock charm was added to the bottom of a tea time sign.

That's it for those two spreads...can't wait to work on the next ones! Thanks for visiting today. Hatter, Hare, and I are delighted you did.

Pumpkins and Turkeys ~ CYP Challenge 240

Our challenge theme this week at Craft Your Passion is Pumpkins and Turkeys in honour of the American Thanksgiving. Our sponsor is Bugaboo Stamps and I chose to play with this fun image called Turkey-Pumpkin...seemed appropriate...lol. I coloured Mr. Turkey and his pumpkin with Prismacolor pencils, adding some enamel dots for his pupils. He was then fussy cut, matted in black cardstock, and fussy cut again before being popped up on foam tape.

The background began with a white card base. I traced the right edge of the largest Curved Rectangles die and trimmed the card in that shape, inking around the four edges with Black Soot Distress ink and doodling a border. Layers of two different patterned paper were cut with the next size dies and then matted in black before being stacked. The top layer and mat had two lengths of black twine wrapped around and taped to the back before being adhered over the other layer.

To complete the simple design, the sentiment was computer generated, printed on kraft cardstock, and cut with a circle die. The edge was inked with Black Soot Distress ink and foam tape was applied to the back. A corrugated arrow was matted in black, and three enamel dots were adhered to the shaft of the arrow before it was popped up on foam tape and adhered to the top left corner.

Thanks for visiting with Mr. Turkey and me today. We appreciate that, you know. To see the other wonderful creations by my talented teamies, pop over to the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog. Winter ~ RSD November Showcase project

It's time for the November Showcase at RSD's Sparkle and Glitter blog. The theme for this month is Winter which is very apropos here in Ontario, Canada. I have been waiting for the opportunity to colour another of Rick St. Dennis' fabulous hat ladies, this one called Palm Court Hat Lady. I figured with the gorgeous fur around her neck, it must be cold where she is but that's not stopping her from exuding STYLE. No touques and mittens on strings for this beauty.

I coloured her with Prismacolor pencils, adding a little Cinnamon Stickles to the center of her hat flower. She was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and popped up on foam tape to create that lovely shadow.

A rectangle of Foil cardstock was cut to fit just inside the white card front. A slightly smaller rectangle of deep blue cardstock was cut to fit inside that, leaving the icy silver border showing. The blue cardstock was stamped with Versamark using two snowflake stamps and embossed with Snowflake Tinsel powder. Two sizes of snowflakes were punched from a thin sheet of silver metal and adhered to the blue base using Glossy Accents. I love how dimensional the metal becomes once punched. The edges curl a bit which catches the light in a cool way.

To finish the design, three medium sized faceted rhinestones were adhered to the top left corner. This was balanced by the bow on top of the silver cord which was wrapped around the lower section of the card. This is a very different style of card for me with the silver and the understated elegance but I'm happy with it. Both the Winter theme and this beautiful image seemed to call for this kind of look.

To check out other fantastic projects by other member of Rick's EDT, pop over to the Sparkle and Glitter blog. It's always a treat for me to see how others interpret the same them and this Showcase did not disappoint!

Baby, It's Cold Outside ~ TEW Challenge 19

Boy, our theme for Challenge 19 at The East Wind, Baby It's cold outside, is so appropriate in mid-western Ontario right now. We are in the midst of a snowstorm and the temperature is chilly to say the least! It's been snowing for 2 days and staying instead of melting in the afternoon. For this challenge, we want to see projects that reflect that chilly weather even if you are lucky enough to still have it warm where you are!

I chose to colour the lovely Aurora Waiting For You image from The East Wind shop. Did you see the fabulous rendition Unky did with this image in last week's video? And speaking of videos...you have to  check out her hair video from this week...holy cow! I loved it and learned a ton. Anyway, I coloured Aurora with Prismacolor pencils and inked the die cut edges with Tumbled Glass and Broken China Distress inks. Then, just for fun, I added a snippet of cheesecloth for the steam rising from her cup and some Icicle Stickles to the center of each snowflake. This layer was matted in black and popped up on foam tape.

A black rectangle was cut slightly smaller than the white card front. Blue dotty paper was cut into two rectangles which would fit side by side inside the black one leaving a border on all sides and between the two. The blue rectangles were edged with Faded Jeans Distress ink beofre being adhered to the matting. The image layer was centered over these layers so that the points top and bottom lined up with the black space between.

Three large snowflakes were punched from white cardstock and then embossed with a dotty folder. Icicle Stickles were spread over them using my finger. A large pearl was adhered to the center of each before they were attached to the three corners of the card.

The computer generated sentiment was die cut in a circle shape, matted in black, and faux stitched. It was then adhered to the fourth corner with two layers of foam tape for extra dimension.

Thanks so much for popping in on Aurora and me today. We appreciate that and hope that wherever you are, you stay warm and toasty...or cool as a cucumber...whatever works for you :) To see the other wonderful inspiration projects by the rest of the DT, pop over to The East Wind Challenge blog when you get a minute. We'd love to have you join us for this Baby It's Cold Outside challenge.

Merry & Bright ~ CYP Challenge 239

Hi everyone! It's a brand new week and that means a new challenge at Craft Your Passion. The theme this week is Something beginning with B. We want to see a few things on your project beginning with B. Please be sure to list them in your post.

Our wonderful sponsor this week is Diane's Daydream Designs and I chose to create with this sweet Cardinal image since cardinals are my mom's favourite birds. It came with a coloured version as well but since I love colouring, I chose the black and white version of the bird, adding my own colour with Prismacolor pencils. The blue background colour was done by applying Tumbled Glass and Broken China Distress inks with a blending tool. The image was then cut with a Spellbinders Labels 26 die and matted in black cardstock.

The card began with a white card base. A black rectangle was cut slightly smaller than the card front and a rectangle of blue snowflake patterned paper added to that leaving a black border at the bottom. Snowflakes were punched from the same snowflake designer paper. Blingy flowers were attached to the snowflake centers with brads. The sentiment was computer generated and cut with a circle punch. It's edge was then inked and faux stitched before it and the image were popped up on foam tape. I cut the shanks off three snowflake buttons and popped them up on foam tape to add a little sparkle and another B to the design.

Thanks for visiting today. When you get a minute or two, pop over to the Craft Your Passion Challenges blog to see the creative inspiration pieces from the rest of our talented team. We would love it if you decided to play along with our Something Beginning With B challenge.

The Mad Tea Party ~ RSD altered teacup album

Hi Everyone! Those who know me also know that I have a huge love for anything related to Alice in Wonderland. I have had these chipboard teacup shapes in my stash for absolutely ages. They are 4" high and 6.5" wide at the saucer and came 4 to a pack with holes punched and a binder ring connecting them. I have coloured several of Rick St. Dennis' Alice characters individually but this seemed like the ideal substrate to use for combining them into a mixed media book focusing on the Hatter's tea party. Today I want to share the cover and the Alice pages.

I began all cups by adhering designer paper to both sides with matte medium, trimming the excess away with a craft knife. The raw edges were inked with a Black Big Brush pen. The teacup details were hand drawn and a template was created to transfer them to each cup. Shading with acrylics and chalk paints was added and the details were further emphasized with a black Micron pen. The gold band on each saucer was also added with acrylic paint because this is a very elegant tea party using only the best china :) Stencilling, stamping, and doodling were then added to each background.

The cover of the Tea Party book features one of the three Hat Shoppe images which can be found in Rick's Zibbet shop. It was coloured with Prismacolor pencils and fussy cut leaving a narrow white border. Black matting was behind that to add contrast to the background and it was popped up on foam tape. A small piece of doily edged with Vintage Photo Distress ink was added at the base of the image. The sentiment was computer generated, inked with Black Soot Distress ink, and matted with black and white washi tape adhered to a white backing. The two sections were popped up on foam tape for dimension and to create shadow. Absolom in the form of a butterfly was fussy cut, coated with Glossy Accents, and given a tiny metal spoon body to fit the tea theme.

The back of this first teacup becomes the "title page" for Alice's teacup. When the book is opened you see both pages together. I wanted the character name and a quote from the story on this page.

A tag was cut from black cardstock and the wording was fussy cut from a collage sheet from Etsy. More washi tape adhered to white cardstock was used as the border and hole reinforcement as well as the punched circles and band on the teacup brad. A scrap of cheesecloth was adhered underneath the tag. The words curiouser and curiouser were matted in black and popped up on foam tape.

Alice's cup features the Mad Tea Party image which can be found in the Zibbet and Etsy shops. Alice, her cup, and teapots were coloured with Prismacolor pencils and fussy cut. A narrow black border was added with cardstock before Alice was popped up on foam tape.

A small doily was placed behind her to repeat the doily used previously as well as draw attention to her. The sentiment from my Etsy stash was fussy cut and then backed by that same washi tape adhered in rows to white cardstock. This pattern ties both pages of the spread together. More circles were punched to scatter this pattern about.

And that's it for the first segment of RSD's Mad Tea Party...lol. Stay tuned for the next spreads coming soon to a blog near you. Thanks for visiting today!
