Sneak Peek of my post on the Joggles blog

Hi everyone! It's my turn to post a project on the Joggles blog and this time I decided to use Strathmore's 6x6 bristol artist tiles as the substrate for some mixed media fun with the new Joggles/Bloobel rubber stamps. You know that I am smitten with all of Lisa's fabulous Bloobel images and the Joggles Cling Rubber Stamps are amazing quality so this idea was a win/win for me. I created 4 tiles but I'm only showing you one here. To see the rest and get the scoop on my step by step process, you'll have to head over to the Joggles blog. I know...I'm mean :)

Hope to see you there!

Mother Nature's Box of Crayons ~ Inspired by a new release from The East Wind

Hi everyone! I am such a huge fan of fall/autumn. I think I love everything about it including the amazing fall colours. Where we live, there are a lot of maple trees so we get the spectacular reds and oranges which make my heart happy. As soon as I saw Unky's new release from The East Wind shop, I pictured her in fall colours. She is called Aurora "Magic Flute" and she seems like some kind of fairy sent by Mother Nature to remind us to enjoy every moment and all of the simple beauties in our days.

I coloured Aurora with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils and I took a little artistic license with her, I think. I believe the back piece on her head is probably hair but I wanted her to have a head dress in intense fall colours. It suited my vision of an Autumn Fairy :) To give her a place to sit and play her magic flute, a branch was die cut from brown paper, then inked with Vintage Photo Distress ink, and lined with black pen,

The background, a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper, was spritzed with Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow- Orange, Hag's Wart Orange, and Rudolph's Nose Red Lindy's Starburst Sprays. Once dry, one of the TH Falling Leaves stamps was applied to the background in several places with  Vermillion and Tiger Lily Archival Ink. Text was added using  Red Geranium Archival Ink and a Wendy Vecchi stamp. Once the tree was adhered to the background, black splatter dots were added with a TH stamp and Jet Black Archival. Aurora was popped up on foam tape and adhered so she is sitting on the tree branch. Leaves were punched from various red, green, yellow, and orange mop up papers. Coffee, Red Geranium, Vermillion, Tiger Lily, and Fern Green Archival inks were sponged onto the points of the leaves to make them multi-coloured. They were adhered to the branch and then outlined with black pen to help them show up against the similarly coloured background. The tree branch was also outlined.

The sentiment was printed onto white card stock, the words cut apart, and then matted with black. Foam tape was used to pop them up and adhere them. A black pen was used to doodle the simple border and black Big Brush Pen was used to outline the edges. Black card stock was used to mat the journal page and provide a frame to pull the page together.

Thanks for joining Aurora and me today. To see what others from TEW DT have done with this gorgeous image, be sure to pop by The East Wind Facebook group today. It's very cool to see where others take her in their art.

Jack Swine ~ a Sandra Caldwell New Release

Hi everyone! Since we skipped last Monday's new releases because Sandra was sick, it means that today Sandra Caldwell has two fabulous groups of new releases available in her Etsy shop Babycakes Digis and Designs. The second image I played with is called 1072 Jack Swine. He was coloured with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils, then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border. I think he's very dapper in his striped suit and bat wings.

The background started as a rectangle of designer paper which had a different image inside the frame. I cut the inside out and matted it with black so that Jack contrasted with the spooky background. The frame was then faux stitched and tiny black bats were stamped and fussy cut. Before adding them to the frame above Jack's head, Glossy Accents were added to their eyes to add dimension and shine.

A purple banner was hand cut and then stamped with Versamark Ink. Black embossing powder was added to the ink and then heat set. The open letters were coloured in with white coloured pencil. White gel pen was used to faux stitch the banner. Black enamel dots were used to embellish the ends of the banner.

When you get a chance, pop by Sandra Caldwell Stamps Fans Facebook group to see the  two fabulous sets of new releases she has for us this week. it's going to be a banner day there with so many awesome images and DT projects being posted. To check out the rest of Sandra's awesome images, pop over to her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs.  There is such a delightful collection of wonderful quirky images in Sandra's signature style that you are sure to be inspired!

Mr. Santa #1028 ~ A Sandra Caldwell New Release

Hi everyone! It's Monday and that means that Sandra Caldwell has another fabulous group of new releases available in her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. I created another adorable Christmas card with my chosen image called Mr. Santa  #1028. I love his dapper hat and cheerful face...so cute and fun to colour.

I coloured Mr. Santa with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Don't you love his baby blues? He was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border around him and then was matted with black Card stock to frame him and provide contrast with the background. Foam tape was used to pop him up and adhere him to the background.

The background is actually one layer cropped from a larger sheet of designer paper to fit inside the white card base. It was then matted with black card stock to anchor and frame it. Faux black stitching was added to the scallops and picot ribbons to make them look more 3D and add some detail. A red button was threaded with green embroidery floss and it was adhered to the background with Glossy Accents. The letters for Ho Ho Ho are sparkly white stickers which catch the light beautifully.

Thanks so much for stopping by today to visit with Mr. Santa and me. He'll be putting you on the Good List for sure!  When you get a chance, pop by Sandra Caldwell Stamps Fans Facebook group to see the other fabulous new releases she has for us this week. They are wonderfully inspiring and my talented DT teamies will post their delightful creations featuring them throughout the day. Crazy Cat Lady ~ Inspired by a Bloobel image

Hi everyone! Being a huge cat lover, this image from Bloobel stamps was a Must Have for me. She's called Crazy Cat Lady and I can relate to her oh-so-well :) I have two fur babies right now only because I know my husband's feelings on more than that but I could easily be that "crazy cat lady" if left unsupervised.

I coloured CCL with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. She and her friends were then fussy cut leaving a narrow white border. They were then matted with black card stock and trimmed out again. Foam tape was added to the back of the image except for the bottom foot which was glued flat so that the die cut grass would lie flat.

The background is another 6 x 8 inch rectangle of the plain back side of designer paper. Two sizes of Ellen Hutson Bokeh Dot stamps were added using Forget-Me-Not Archival ink. The same ink was used to add text stamping. A small kitty paw print was added to each corner with Versamark Ink and black embossing powder. The border was drawn to connect the four prints leaving some openings between the lines. White paint pen was used to dot inside the border openings adding texture and brightness. More white was added in the form of Ranger Texture Paste scraped through TCW Texture Tile stencil. The die cut grass was adhered so that it slightly overlapped CCL's foot. Tiny lavender flowers were punched, adhered to the grass, and black rhinestone centers were added.

The sentiment was printed onto white card stock and the words were cut out individually. The center of each O was lined with a fine black pen and the words were matted with black. Foam tape was used to adhere the words to the background. To add a little more whimsy, pattern, and liveliness to the page, black and white striped washi tape adhered to white card stock was added behind the blue background to create a frame. Black card stock was then added to the back of the page to provide a final frame and draw the eye to the inside.

Thanks for joining Crazy Cat Lady and me today. She, her furry friends, and I all appreciate that. To see more of Lisa Graham's fabulously quirky and whimsical images, pop over to her Bloobel shop. It's a lovely place to visit and meet new friends who want to live at your house and in your art :)

Joggles Art Journal Adventure ~ Week 35 response

Hi there! I playing a bit of catch up on a couple of the weekly prompts which I skipped for the Joggles Art Journal Adventure. I completed my journal page for Week 35 which Barb had dubbed Outward From the Center. I was a bit stumped on what I wanted to do when all of a sudden I thought of a sun face and then I was off and creating! I am such a fan of celestial images especially where the sun, moon, or stars have a face.

I began the background of my 8 x 10 inch journal page by spritzing Sassy Sapphire, Bachelor Button Blue, and Delphinium Turquoise Lindy's Starburst sprays onto  it and allowing it to dry thoroughly. Using Forget-Me-Not Archival Ink, a Wendy Vecchi Tales of Art stamp and Darkroom Door Polka Dots stamp were added to the background for subtle texture. Wendy Vecchi's A Form of Art ledger stamp was applied to the outside edges of the page with Jet Black Archival.

The sun and the triangular rays were all fussy cut from yellow mop-up paper which had picked up Yellow Rose of Texas, California Poppy Gold, and Marigold Yellow Orange Lindy's sprays. You can also see a little stencilling in the face. The face was cut into a 3.5 inch circle and was first stamped and edged with Orange Blossom Archival Ink and a River City stamp called Face of Uncle Enos. He was stamped a second time off-set slightly from the first using Jet Black Archival ink. I love the effect that created! The cheeks were scrubbed in with a dry brush and a mix of red and white paint.

The triangles were cut by hand and then edged with Orange Blossom Archival ink. Once they were adhered in place, black pen was used to outline them on the background as well as doodling patterns on them. Black die cut arrows and black gems were added to extend the outward from the center idea as well as creating that pop of black I love so much. I decided to call this guy Ray because it makes me laugh so I added his name to the top left corner using Idea-ology Alpha Parts. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the three sides and a simple double border was doodled around the page to create a frame.

Thanks for joining Ray and me today. Ray has a hard time showing his joy...just know it's there :)  If you haven't already been following along with the Joggles Art Journal Adventure and Barb's weekly Monday prompts, it's never too late. You can join in at any point, catch up or not, and we'd love to have you join our wonderful AJA Facebook group as well. Be the Change ~ Inspired by a Sandra Caldwell image

Hi there! Today I have an art journal page starring one of Sandra Caldwell's many fabulous images. This one is called 121 Top of the World. I love this image and have had her partially coloured and sitting on my desk for a while so I decided to finish her and create a page around her.

I coloured her with a mix of Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils. She was then fussy cut above the chalk ledge and then tight around her until I reached the chalk ledge on the other side. I wanted the upper background behind her to be chalkboard and didn't want to colour it black so I replaced the top portion with black card stock and added the writing and numbers with white coloured pencil. This ensured that the blackboard was evenly coloured with no streaks and it also kept it flat black which the wax from the pencils doesn't allow.

The background began as a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of designer paper. I have so much DP  that is fairly plain on one side so I am making a conscious effort to use it in my art journal pages. Using Tree Branch Archival ink, text was added with a TH stamp, rings with Ellen Hutson's Bokeh Dots stamp, and dots with Darkroom Door's Polka Dots Texture stamp. Torn strips of book paper were adhered to the background and white gesso was spread over the text. Lengths of black and white washi tape were layered over the book paper. Jet Black Archival in was applied to one of the Darkroom Door Paint Splats stamps and it was added in several places. Tree Branch Archival ink was used again to stamp dots onto the book text to further help the pieces bland into the background. Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through TCW Tile Texture stencil to add a little white and some dimension.

A border was doodled with black pen around the edges and white paint pen filled in the circles. The sentiment was printed onto white card stock, cut apart, and the individual words were matted with black card stock. Foam tape was added to the backs of the words and the image. Black Big Brush pen was used to outline the page edges before a black mat was added to frame it.

Thanks for joining this little Top of the World gal and me today. To see more of Sandra's images, be sure to pop over to her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. There are wonderful images there for every occasion and sentiment.

Sneak Peek of my Joggles Tunnel Book

Hi everyone. Thanks for stopping by. Have you seen the new tunnel books that Joggles is now carrying? They are fabulous...so sturdy and full of possibilities. The rings are just the right size to keep it from being floppy and misaligned but also leaving enough room for layers of goodness. They come in 6 x 6 inch size with either square or circular graduated openings or 6 x 9 inches with a rectangular opening. Very cool!Today on the Joggles blog I have a full tutorial on the one I just finished creating. I would love it if you popped over there to see it. There are individual shots of each page spread at the end of the post plus an explanation of the process in the first part. I'm excited to hear what you think :)

Hope to see you there!

A Wish ~ TEW Challenge #63 project

Hi everyone! Today marks the beginning of a new challenge on The East Wind blog. Our theme for Challenge #63 is I Like to Move It, Move It. We have a couple of ways that you can play along. You can either create a project where something actually moves, slides, wobbles, jiggles IRL OR you can use an image where there is movement within it (like the dandelions blowing in the wind) OR you can create movement in the background in an artsy fartsy way. I chose to do the second and third options on my art journal page.

The image with movement in it is called Dandelion and it was one that immediately came to mind when I read this theme. The image was coloured with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. Once it was cut into a circular shape, the edges were inked with Broken China and Salty Ocean Distress inks. The image was then matted with black card stock and popped up on foam tape to create dimension and a natural shadow around it.

The background began life as a rectangle of white card stock onto which I flipped an ink sprayed stencil from Joggles called Bubble Blast to clean it off. The sprays used were Lindy's Starburst sprays in a variety of greens. I love using the negative stencilled image and hate wasting ink and wonderful colour so I often do this. It gives me a ready made background for a project like today's. To continue the flight of the dandlion seeds, I drew, coloured, and Glossy Accented more seeds onto the background. More movement and pattern was created by tracing through ColorBox SwirlDot stencil with a black pen and then filling in a pattern of lines in the open circles. Movement lines were addded beside the dandelion seeds with the same pen.

The sentiment was printed on white card stock and the words were cut apart. Black matting and foam tape were added to the backs of each word. Three large black domed pearls were added to the upper left corner to balance the design but that was it for embellies. I wanted a very light, airy background where the bubbles and swirls played up the theme of movement and the focus was on this beautiful image.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. That's so awesome of you! When you get a chance, pop over to The East Wind blog to see the other fabulous creations by my talented teamies on The East Wind DT. Their creativity always impresses me! We would love to have you play along with us and can't wait to see what you create!

Yippee! Guesting for Joggles Art Journal Adventure - Week 37

Woop! Woop! I have the privilege of hosting this week's Joggles Art Journal Adventure this week for Barb. I am so excited, a little nervous (big shoes to fill!), and I can't wait to see what people create in response. The theme I have chosen is to create texture on an art journal background using crumpled tissue paper. I am a huge fan of texture and usually combine several types which I did today. This is only a Sneak Peek. To see the entire project, pop over to the Joggles blog and check it out. I would love it if you played along (psst...don't leave me hanging...LOL)
Hope to see you there!

Snow Time Like You ~ Inspired by a Sandra Caldwell New Release

Hi everyone! it's Monday and that means that Sandra Caldwell has another fabulous group of new releases available in her Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. The one I chose to play with this week is called Snowy Storm #1024. I love snowmen and this one is so cute I couldn't resist colouring him up to star in a Christmas or Winter card.

I coloured Snowy with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. The spirals around him were outlined with turquoise metallic gel pen to add a bit of sparkle to the background. The image was cut along the frame lines and then the corners were rounded before it was matted with black card stock to let it show against the background. Foam dots were used to adhere it to the card, creating dimension and shadow.

The patterned paper behind our little snowman image was cut into a rectangle slightly smaller than the white card base and then matted with black card stock to frame it. A black snowflake patterned paper was torn into a band to fit across the center of the white snowflake layer. Before it was adhered, two lengths of pink and white washi tape applied to white card stock were adhered to the black band so they peeked out. The edges of the washi tape which showed were darkened with a black brush pen. Snowy Time was layered over that band once it was adhered to the background.

The sentiment was printed onto white card stock and the open letters were filled in with pink marker. The words were cut apart, matted with black, and popped up on foam tape. Two metal snowflakes were affixed to the top right corner with brads and three black gems were placed in the bottom left corner to balance out the design.

Thanks so much for stopping by today to visit with Snowy and me.  When you get a chance, pop by Sandra Caldwell Stamps Fans Facebook group to see the other fabulous new releases she has for us this week. Bee Bold ~ Sandra Caldwell FB Group Challenge

Hi there! There is a fun challenge going on over at the Sandra Caldwell Stamp Fans Facebook group. It's called Holley's Favourite Oldies. Holley has chosen three of Sandra's older images  and has asked us to create a project featuring one of these three: 565 Bernie Bee; 538 Sunday Best; 599 Bearly Raggedys...all great choices!

I decided to create with 565 Bernie Bee because I love love love bees and Sandra's bees always make me smile! Just look at that face! I coloured Bernie with a mix of Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. His glasses were filled in with Glossy Accents to create both shine and dimension. Bernie was fussy cut leaving a narrow white border and then matted with black. Once he was trimmed out again, Bernie was popped up on foam tape to add dimension and create a natural shadow.

The 6 x 8 inch mixed media background was spritzed with Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow Orange, and California Poppy Gold Lindy's Starburst Sprays. Pale Ochre Archival Ink was sponged through TCW Honeycomb stencil in several areas to create a subtle texture and pattern.

Two lengths of washi tape, adhered to white card stock to take away the transparency, were placed under Bernie so he would have a place to sit. Two enamel dots were adhered to the tapes. Two sizes of hexagon dies were used to cut shapes from old book text. They were matted with black and faux stitching was added with black pen. They were then added to opposite corners of the background. A tiny brass bee charm was added to one of the larger hexagons.

The sentiment was printed on white card stock and the letter openings were coloured with yellow marker. The words were then adhered flat to the background. A black border was doodled around the outside of the background and Black Big Brush Pen was used to edge the outside. Jet Black Archival Ink was used to stamp splatter dots here and there before a black matting was added to finish the page.

Thanks for joining Bernie and me today. You still have until September 16 to join in this fun challenge. We would love to see what you create with one of Holley's Favourite Oldies from Sandra Caldwell's Etsy shop, Babycakes Digis and Designs. Hope to see you there!

Imagination ~ Joggles Art Journal Adventure Week #34 Response

Barb's prompt for Week 34 of the Joggles Art Journal Adventure was to Use What's On Your Table. She created an art journal page which featured an oval shape surrounded by black paint, a gray frame, and contained two figures from a Joggles Collage Sheet. This was a format which I hadn't done before and it intrigued me. I did change up the process but went with the general idea and was able to use things that were on my table in the process.

I began by spritzing my background of the page with Vineyard Art Anthology Colorations Spray which is a purple/blue colour. The oval in the center of the page was cut from a mixed media paper background which was sitting in a pile on my table. It had been sprayed with Ocean and Patina Color Shine Sprays. Aquamarine Archival Ink was used with Stampotique's Dotted Squares stamp to create some pattern and texture on the oval. Jet Black Archival Ink was used with one of Darkroom Door's Paint Splats stamp set to create the smaller splats. A length of washi tape added to white card stock was added to give the guy a place to sit. Both images from Joggles Anthropomorphic II Collage Sheetwere adhered flat onto the oval, outlined with black pen and then again with an Inktense pencil activated with water.  Ranger Texture Paste was scraped through TCW Tiny Circles stencil to add dimension around the images. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the oval before it was matted with black card stock and trimmed to leave a narrow border.

The oval was traced onto the sprayed page background and then another oval was drawn about .5 inches outside of that and traced over with a Medium Black Pitt pen. The same pen was used to doodle inside the frame. Liquitex Mars Black Acrylic paint was painted around the outside of the oval frame to the page edges. Once thoroughly dry, Versamark Ink was tapped through Dylusions Diamond of a Border stencil in places and white embossing powder was added to the wet ink. I didn't worry too much about tapping off the extra powder before I heat set it because I wanted that messy imperfect look.

To finish the page, the oval was adhered to the background page using Scor tape. Glossy Accents was added to both sets of glasses to add dimension and shine to the lenses. The word Imagination, an Idea-ology Big Chat Sticker was adhered to the bottom of the page and doodles were added to the white around the word. And then I called it Done Like Dinner! It was fun to meet the challenge of using what was on my table. Fortunately, I've been working on a lot of projects so I had more on there than usual although some things never get put away because I use them every time. Thank goodness for a big table!

Thanks for stopping by today. My Anthropomorphic friends and I appreciate your fine company. If you haven't already been following along with the Joggles Art Journal Adventure and Barb's weekly Monday prompts, it's not too late. You can join in at any point and we'd love to have you join our wonderful AJA Facebook group as well. It's an awesome group filled with creative, friendly, and supportive people who share the same enthusiasm for this fun adventure.

We're baaaackkkk! ~ Joggles DT Project Sneak Peek

Barb was kind enough to give the Joggles DT Team most of August off so people could enjoy their summers. Today is the first day back and I am one of the two team members (the other is Amy) who are posting a new project on the Joggles blog today. As soon as I saw this fabulous  6 x 7.5 x 4 inch Paper Mache Gingerbread House in the Joggles shop, it became a Must Have. I love houses of all sorts and you'll often see them cropping up both in my home decor and my art. Above is a Sneak Peek of the project which I have added to the Joggles blog featuring some of the new Joggles/Virginia England cling mounted rubber stamps and some collage sheet images. To see the tutorial showing my process for creating this, be sure to pop over there and have a look.

See you there!

The East Wind Challenge #62 ~ Shine

Hi everyone! As soon as I saw September's  newsletter freebie image from The East Wind which is called Borum, I was reminded of a song my mom used to sing when I was little... Shine On Harvest Moon. That's where Challenge # 62's theme came from. For the Shine challenge, we want to see either a sun or a moon or to see something shiny on your project. Easy Peasy!

Borum, himself, was coloured with Prismacolor and Polychromos pencils. He was then fussyc ut without leaving a white border. The sun/moon was die cut from a piece of white cardstock which had been spritzed with Yellow Rose of Texas, Marigold Yellow Orange, and California Poppy Gold Lindy's Starburst sprays which contain mica. Borum was adhered to the sun/moon and then the entire image was backed with black cardstock which was trimmed leaving a narrow border. This added strength to his braid and the rope as well as making the image contrast with the background. Foam tape was added to the back to pop him up.

The background, a 6 x 8 inch rectangle of mixed media paper, was spritzed with Electric Blue Tattered Angels, Ocean, and Teal Color Shine sprays. Once dry, Forget-Me-Not Archival Ink was applied through TCW's Microbial Stencil in several areas. It was also used on a rubber stamp of a leafless tree and stamped across the bottom of the page. This was to indicate how high Borum is swinging. White gesso was watered down slightly and used with a bottle lid to create the white rings. More of the same watered gesso was splattered over the background using a fan brush. Clouds were added to the top of the page with cheesecloth scraps. To add further shine to the page, several sizes of clear rhinestones were scattered across the sky around Borum.

The sentiment was printed onto white cardstock, cut into individual words, and matted with black. Foam tape was used to adhere them to the background for dimension. Black Big Brush pen was used to edge the page before it was matted with black cardstock which provides the look of a frame.

Thanks for joining Borum and me today. That was lovely of you! To see the other fabulous DT creations featuring this same newsletter image, pop over to The East Wind blog where they are all on display. We would love to have you play along with us for our Shine challenge.
